Davido's 5ive Takes Album of the Year as Nigerians Lead AFRIMMA 2026

Nigerian artists claimed a sizeable chunk of the prizes at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards, and the biggest moment belonged to Davido. He won Album of the Year for 5ive, the night's biggest individual music prize. He had entered as the ceremony's most nominated artiste, with five nominations. 5ive beat Burna Boy, Asake, Omah Lay and Black Sherif.
The biggest Nigerian winners
Davido: Album of the Year, 5ive
Tems: Best Female West Africa
Ruger: Best Male West Africa
BNXN and Sarz: Song of the Year
Phyno: Best Male Rap Act
Victony: AFRIMMA Fans Choice Award
Mercy Chinwo: Best Gospel
Fola: Best Newcomer.
The wins went beyond music. Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen took Athlete of the Year.
Why award wins still matter to fans
Streaming numbers tell you what people play. Trophies tell you what people remember. For fans, a win like this is proof that the artist they have defended in comment sections is being recognised on a global stage. It also gives them a shared moment to celebrate their mutual faves together.
For Nigerian music in particular, a big night in the United States shows how far our sound travels. It is not just a home-crowd victory.
