Shettima, Oshiomhole Bring ‘Buga’ Vibes to Tinubu Rally

A political rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, briefly turned into a dance party after Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Senator Adams Oshiomhole showed off their dance moves to Kizz Daniel’s hit song, ‘Buga’.

The video, reported by Premium Times on November 6, 2026, shows the two politicians dancing energetically on stage as the popular Afrobeats track plays. Both men raise their shoulders and move to the familiar rhythm, entertaining supporters and dignitaries gathered at the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The clip quickly attracted attention online, with social media users sharing the moment and reacting with jokes, amusement and supportive comments.

But why is ‘Buga’ still making waves four years after its release?

Released in May 2022 by Kizz Daniel, featuring Tekno, the song became a global Afrobeats sensation. Its infectious beat, catchy lyrics and simple, recognisable dance challenge helped it reach audiences across different countries and age groups.

Beyond its musical appeal, the song carries a celebratory message. The expression ‘Buga won’ encourages people to show off and celebrate their achievements. That confident, feel-good message makes it particularly suitable for politicians looking to project success and connect with supporters.

Music has long played an important role in Nigerian politics. Campaign songs, popular dance tracks, traditional performances and live entertainment are regularly used to energise crowds, communicate political messages and create memorable moments at rallies.

Shettima and Oshiomhole are not the first politicians to dance to ‘Buga’. Premium Times recalls that Tinubu and former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo also danced to the song at public events in 2022 and 2023.

Their latest performance shows that, in Nigerian politics, a good campaign moment does not always require a long speech. Sometimes, a familiar beat and a few dance steps are enough to get everyone talking.
