Portable: The Court Drama, His pulse and Why He Remains a Sensation

Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, known also as Portable, is again the centre of public attention due to a judicial case with actress Ashabi Simple, his estranged partner.

The drama began unfolding when Ashabi visited Portable's bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State with her siblings on New Year's Day, January 1, 2026. A heated conversation had ensued over Ashabi's insistence on being recognised as Portable’s wife rather than being referred to as a baby mama. She further claimed he assaulted her and her siblings, impounded their phones and threatened them with an axe. Portable was said also to assault police officers and steal a ₦12 million Mercedes-Benz. These formed part of the nine-count charge allegations against him.
Portable was arraigned on January 12 in a court in Ota, Ogun State, on charges including assault, theft, causing bodily harm and resisting arrest. His initial bail application was denied because the assaulted police officer was absent from court. He was freed after meeting his bail conditions on January 19.

Portable claimed innocence, after being released declaring in a viral video, "They lied against me. I'm innocent."

Deeper than the courtroom drama, Portable's capacity to pull online attention is mainly linked to his unpredictable kind of person, outspoken nature and frequent public utterances. From relationship controversies and social media outbursts to disputes with fellow entertainers, Portable regularly generates conversations that extend beyond his music.

His uncensored and crude online presence has become a major part of his public identity and identification code . Many audiences criticise his conduct as lousy but a good number of others express always being thrilled entertained by his unconventional but unique approach to celebrity life.

For Portable, controversy and entertainment are always side by side, making sure his name is always present in Nigeria's online conversations.
