FOLA, Davido and Phyno Dominate Nigeria's October Music Charts

What do you get when Davido releases a banger with one of Afrobeats’ fastest rising stars, Phyno decides to drop another trending love song and Seyi Vibez refuses to leave the top of the charts because of another hit?

October must have been like Christmas came early for music lovers, what with amazing collabs and songs topping charts on Apple Music, Spotify and others. And of course, fans reacted positively because these hits got millions of streams within a few days.

FOLA, for example, has had at least three songs streamed by the masses this past month, one of them notably with Nigeria’s baddest, Davido. The song, 2am in Toronto, gained traction quickly. While some argue that Davido’s contribution was not necessary in the intimate, romantic-sounding song, others enjoyed the collab. Besides, the charts don’t lie!

That’s not all from FOLA, by the way. Miss u ii (nriri) is still among the top ten faves on Nigerian charts, and for good reason too. FOLA’s 9 album appeared to have a theme centered around love, attachment and vulnerability, and this song in particular seemed to have gotten the attention of many listeners, as its focus on romantic longing, coupled with FOLA’s soothing voice, was a difficult pass.

The song even reached No. 1 on Nigeria’s Official Top 100 last month, and the comments on social media indicate that FOLA did not come to play with his new album.

Phyno’s Beautiful also had her time to shine in October, as the romantic Afrobeat song, which notably lacked the artiste’s usual rap, reminded listeners of the beauty of women. Some fans even commented that the song reminded them of marriage, so don’t be surprised if it’s added to 2027 wedding playlists!

Seyi Vibez cannot be left out of this listing, especially since BACK 2 U is still top 3 on both Spotify and Apple Music, which isn’t even a surprise. The lyrics express emotional attachment and a willingness to go to great lengths to make a relationship work. Trust that you’ll be unable to go back when you give it a listen.

From heartfelt love songs to energetic street-pop hits, artistes like Asake, Rema and Blaqbonez also kept listeners entertained, showing just how diverse yet unified our music industry continues to be.
