# Bafana squad for Kenya games brings big selection talk
Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has named his 27-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Kenya, sparking debate among supporters over some notable inclusions and omissions.
The squad features several familiar faces, including captain Ronwen Williams, midfielder Teboho Mokoena, striker Lyle Foster and attacking talents Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis.
One of the biggest talking points is the return of defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who missed the previous squad through injury. His return adds more strength to a defence that performed well in South Africa's opening qualifying matches.
Another surprise is the inclusion of Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Siyanda Ndlovu. The youngster has impressed at club level and earned his place despite not appearing in Mosimane's preliminary squad.
However, not everyone made the final selection. Experienced midfielder Themba Zwane is among the notable omissions after struggling for regular playing time at Sundowns. Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi and midfielder Lebohang Maboe have also missed out.
The two matches against Kenya are important for South Africa's hopes of reaching the 2027 AFCON finals. Bafana currently lead Group D with six points after victories over Guinea and Eritrea.
Kenya, who are co-hosting the tournament with Uganda and Tanzania, have already secured their place at the finals. This makes the Group D contest particularly important, as South Africa and Guinea are competing for the remaining qualification place.
Bafana will host Kenya at Orlando Amstel Arena on 13 November before travelling to Nairobi for the return match on 17 November.
With experienced internationals, returning players and exciting young talent in the squad, Mosimane will be hoping his team can collect maximum points from the two encounters.
