Surf Expo Africa Returns to Cape Town with Ocean-Inspired Fun

Surf Expo Africa is presented as more than a surfing exhibition. The three-day event, scheduled for 6–8 November 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, brings together ocean sports, beach culture, business, entertainment and environmental education. According to IOL’s report, the second edition aims to expand on its 2025 launch, growing from about 50 exhibitors to 70 and featuring 25 local and international speakers.

The event connects a wide range of participants: surf and outdoor brands, manufacturers, retailers, distributors, entrepreneurs, conservation groups, marine experts, photographers, athletes and members of the public. This mix is important because it links the commercial side of ocean recreation with the communities and organisations working to protect marine environments. Visitors do not need to be surfers; the programme is designed to welcome families and anyone interested in coastal activities.

A major insight is the event’s broad definition of the “ocean lifestyle”. Alongside product displays, visitors can expect live surfboard shaping, demonstrations, swimwear fashion shows, music, skateboarding and activities for children and adults. Speakers from organisations such as the Black Mermaid Foundation, SharkSafe Barriers, Two Oceans Aquarium and The Litterboom Project bring attention to conservation, marine science, inclusion and environmental action. The exhibition therefore combines leisure with opportunities to learn about ocean challenges and solutions.

The article also highlights the potential of the “blue economy” — businesses and jobs connected to oceans and coastal recreation. Bringing brands, makers and buyers together can help local businesses gain visibility, build partnerships and reach new customers. The planned increase in exhibitors suggests growing interest, although attendance and economic benefits will need to be assessed after the event.

Overall, Surf Expo Africa’s key strength is its ability to unite business, culture, recreation and conservation under one roof. Its success should not be measured only by visitor numbers or sales, but also by whether it encourages wider participation in ocean activities, supports local enterprise and inspires greater care for the marine environment. Free entry for children under 12 also makes the event more accessible to families. It may strengthen Cape Town’s profile as a destination for ocean tourism and innovation.
