##South Africans Vote as ANC Faces Fresh Pressure
South Africans have delivered another warning to the African National Congress (ANC), as the party faces a major decline in support following the 2026 local government elections. The results show that the organisation which led the country after apartheid is facing growing demands to improve its performance.

With about 99 per cent of votes counted, the ANC had secured roughly 31 per cent of the national vote. This was a sharp fall from the 45 per cent it received in the 2021 municipal elections. Although it remained the largest party nationally, the result was one of its weakest since it came to power in 1994.
ANC leaders have acknowledged the disappointing result and promised to examine the reasons behind the decline. The party must rebuild public trust by tackling corruption, improving municipal management and ensuring services reach communities.
For opposition parties, the results create an opportunity to demonstrate that they can govern effectively. However, winning votes is only the beginning; coalition partners must cooperate and deliver improvements.
Coalition talks will test whether parties can put citizens first.
The election sends a clear message: South Africans want accountable leadership, reliable services and better economic opportunities. The ANC remains a major political force, but its future influence will depend on how seriously it responds to voters’ concerns.**
