Ooni twin princes presented at palace: Ooni of Ife palace ceremony becomes Nigeria royal trending story

What happened at the palace

It was royalty and culture in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, and his wife Olori Mariam Anako Ogunwusi on Friday, September 11, 2026 formally presented their newborn twin princes to the public in a grand homecoming ceremony at the Ile Oodua Palace.

According to the Palace, this was the first time the Ooni formally set his eyes on the twins since their birth in May 2026. Yoruba tradition requires the Ooni to observe prescribed sacred rites before seeing a newborn royal child.

The twins were born in May and were first named on May 24 at the palace. Traditional items — kola nut, bitter kola, banana, sugarcane, beans, gin, water, cash, dried fish — were offered in prayer for blessings.

The names were announced by an elder:

First twin, Taiwo: Prince Adelowo Adelanaire Adejare Adedunmininu Ademola Taiwo Omo Ooni Adeyeye Ojaja II

Second twin, Kehinde: Prince Adeleye Adelanaola Adejuwon Adedoyim Adebola Kehinde Omo Ooni Adeyeye Ojaja II

The event drew royal fathers, government officials, chiefs, and family including Olori Aderonke, Olori Temitope, Olori Ashley, and other queens. Women in colourful attire carried the infants in white outfits as drummers and traditional groups performed. Videos showed the Ooni seated on his gold throne holding both princes, one in each hand.

Palace Director of Media, Otunba Moses Olafare, said the palace thanks Olodumare for safe delivery and confirmed mother and children are in good health.

Public reaction online

New clips from the ceremony trended fast on Instagram, Facebook and X after the Ooni's official page posted them.

Fans filled comment sections with prayers: “Long may they reign,” “Double blessings to House of Oduduwa,” “May they grow in wisdom.”

Many Nigerians noted it is the second set of twins for the monarch in about two years — he and Olori Tobiloba Phillips welcomed Prince Obalabi and Princess Ademilokan in 2024.

Royal watchers also praised the respect for tradition — waiting months before the public unveiling.

Why royal family moments trend in Nigeria

Royal moments trend because they connect culture, family, and pride.

  1. Cultural link: Ile-Ife is seen as the cradle of Yoruba civilization. A birth in the palace is seen as a blessing for all Yoruba sons and daughters worldwide.
  2. Soft story: In a week full of politics and hard news, a palace baby is a happy, easy story everyone can share respectfully.
  3. Visual tradition: The beads, white clothes, chanting, and naming rites are beautiful to watch and clip — perfect for Reels and TikTok.

That is why the Ooni twin princes presentation quickly became a Nigeria royal trending story — it is joy, history and tradition in one frame.
