New Music Friday lands with Davido, Phyno and Fola

New music has arrived for the weekend, with Davido, FOLA and Phyno among the Nigerian artists giving listeners fresh songs to add to their playlists.

This week’s New Music Friday Nigeria lineup moves between romantic Afrobeats, melodic sounds and more reflective records. The releases offer different moods, whether listeners want something to play on repeat, a song to dedicate to someone special or music for a quiet evening.

One of the major releases is “2am in Toronto,” a collaboration between FOLA and Davido. The track appears on FOLA’s sophomore album, 9, which arrived on October 9.

The song leans into late-night feelings, romantic loyalty and vulnerability. FOLA’s smooth delivery carries much of the record, while Davido joins him on the collaboration.

FOLA’s album also features other familiar names, including Ayra Starr, BNXN, Darkoo, Bella Shmurda and Zlatan. The project gives listeners a wider look at his sound while bringing together several voices from Nigeria’s music scene.

Phyno takes a softer route with “Beautiful”

Phyno also returned with “Beautiful,” a melodic love song that shows a gentler side of the rapper known for his energetic delivery and Igbo-language rap.

The record blends Igbo, Pidgin and English, with lyrics centred on affection, gratitude and the woman who brings meaning to someone’s life. Its warm, melodic direction offers a contrast to the harder rap sound many listeners associate with Phyno.

“Beautiful” is also part of the build-up to his next album, scheduled for October 30, 2026. The release gives fans an early taste of the project’s range.

More songs to add to the playlist

Other releases worth checking out include “What a Feeling” by Moonshine featuring Minz and Qing Madi, alongside “Dad & Dot,” a collaboration between Vector and Cynthia Ifie.

The Moonshine track brings together Minz’s laid-back Afro-pop style and Qing Madi’s R&B vocals. Meanwhile, “Dad & Dot” takes a more reflective approach, focusing on personal themes rather than conventional rap bravado.

Why Friday releases matter

Friday has become a familiar release day for music fans because it offers a convenient moment to discover new songs before the weekend. Artists and labels can build attention around fresh music, while entertainment publications and playlists help listeners navigate the growing number of releases.

For fans, the routine also creates room for debate: which collaboration works best, which artist delivered the strongest song, and which track deserves another listen?

This week, Davido and FOLA bring the high-profile collaboration, while Phyno offers a melodic change of pace. With several other artists releasing new music, listeners have plenty of options to explore before choosing their weekend favourite.
