Morocco Already Through as CAF Futsal Drama Grows

Morocco have secured their place in the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2026 after recording two impressive victories, while the battle for the remaining Group A qualification spot remains intense.
The hosts confirmed their early qualification with a convincing 7-0 victory over Zambia on Wednesday, October 14, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. The result followed their opening 4-0 win against Algeria, giving the defending champions six points from their first two matches and ensuring their progress to the last four.

Morocco's strong performances have underlined their status as one of the leading futsal teams in Africa. Playing in front of their home supporters, the Atlas Lions have demonstrated attacking quality, defensive discipline and impressive teamwork as they continue their title defence.
However, Group A remains competitive, with Zambia, Algeria and Libya fighting for the remaining semi-final place. Zambia started their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Libya, but their heavy defeat against Morocco increased the pressure ahead of their final group match against Algeria.
Algeria and Libya also remain determined to keep their hopes alive. Algeria entered the competition as tournament debutants, while Libya are former champions who won the continental title in 2008. Their performances in the remaining matches will be crucial to determining which team joins Morocco in the semi-finals.

Futsal, an indoor version of football played by two teams of five players, is becoming an exciting sport for African fans. Its fast pace, quick passing, close control and frequent goal-scoring opportunities make matches entertaining and unpredictable.
The sport also provides opportunities for African players to develop their technical skills, improve their tactical understanding and gain international experience. Competitions such as the CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations help countries showcase their talents and attract greater attention to the game.
The tournament carries additional importance because the top three teams will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2028, giving African nations an opportunity to compete on the global stage.

With Morocco already through, attention now turns to the remaining group matches. Supporters will be watching closely to see which team can secure the final semi-final place and continue its journey towards the continental title.
