Morayo recounts TVC attack escape in Lagos

A terrifying experience during the live broadcast.
Media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown has recounted how she and her colleagues narrowly escaped death when hoodlums attacked and set fire to the old Television Continental (TVC) building in Ketu, Lagos, during the 2020 #EndSARS protests. She shared the emotional experience on her Morayo TV show on October 20, 2026, while reflecting on her time as host of Your View. (Punch Newspapers).
Morayo explained that she and her colleague, Tope, were presenting the programme live when the attackers stormed the building. She recalled that communication with the control room suddenly stopped before someone alerted her that the attackers had entered.
The presenters and crew members attempted to escape but discovered that the attackers had already reached the newsroom. They barricaded the studio door with chairs and considered using a back exit, only to find that buses outside were already being set ablaze.
With the staff trapped inside, Morayo said she contacted the police commissioner and other people for help. She also recalled how her 98-year-old grandmother-in-law and mother-in-law walked towards the TVC premises after learning that she was in danger.
Why the story is attracting attention again
Morayo's account has renewed public reactions because it brings back painful memories of the #EndSARS protests, particularly the violence and destruction that followed the Lekki tollgate shootings in October 2020. Her recollection has prompted people who witnessed the events to revisit their own experiences and express gratitude for the survivors.
A painful memory in Lagos history
The attack remains a significant moment in Lagos' recent history, highlighting the dangers faced by journalists and media workers during periods of civil unrest. Morayo expressed gratitude that she and her colleagues survived, stressing that their experience should not be undermined.
